Today marked the end of an era in Tulsa as the Admiral Twin Drive-In burned to the ground.

No word yet on what caused the fire that destroyed the iconic structure in northeast Tulsa.

Already there is a movement afoot to raise contributions to rebuild the Admiral Twin and a Facebook page for that very purpose is available at Save the Admiral Twin Drive-In

According to Blake Smith, whose family has operated the Admiral Twin since 1987, there was no insurance on the structure and it could cost up to $300,000 to replace it.

Of course, that would require an effort along the lines of:

300 people contributing $1,000 each or 3,000 people contributing $100 each or possibly
30,000 people contributing $10 each

Or some combination of the above.

Are we up to it?

Only time will tell…
